Blog Entry Archetypes

Although blogging as a whole is an open process that allows for unlimited creativity, there are well established “templates” that can be observed in the real world. I have been referring to these templates as Blog Entry Archetypes. The following diagram provides a summary of these archetypes.

In total, I have identified 5 different Blog Entry Archetypes. They are as follows:

  • Personal Entry
  • Reference / News Entry
  • Opinion / Commentary Entry
  • Special Purpose Entry
  • Thought Leadership Entry

The use of web logs has grown tremendously in a very short period of time. Although blogging entered the world in one form or another more than 10 years ago, it has only been until recently that the more mainstream, widespread acceptance of the technology and practices behind it have had the limelight.

However, the growth of blogging has come in many different waves, each with growing size and impact.

Today I am adding a new category to the SocialTwister. This new category, “The Business of Blogging” will house a collection of notes and references to the future of blogging as a whole as it relates to business users.

I started a paper on the matter several weeks ago as I was brainstorming on topics for the upcoming BlogerCon II Conference next week. I’m hoping to have some time to discuss some of these topics both in the blog and at the conference. Over the next week, I will be releasing segments of this paper over the next 7 days and continue to analyze it over the following months.
