[...] I’m not alone. Many other Web 2.0-aware folks are interested in Twitter and have debated whether or not Twitter will die or have proclaimed this the Web’s diamond in the rough, or are countering both sides and sharing their opinions on Twitter. I concur with the praise of Twitter’s interface. They nailed that one all the way, it’s rather innovative that users can read and post their events on the same page. [...]

The thing is, Twittermania is running wild - like no one ever thought about brevity in publishing before or used Dodgeball, or ever used SMS before. It is a paradigm shift perhaps, and it is very interesting, but I am beginning to think the activity around Twitter has more buzz than Twitter itself - with everyone competing for the highest rankings on Twitterific and all the fandom sites setup, once again, the real signal is lost amongst the noise.

Going back to when we first met, the short post concept was at the core of Insytes - of course, the intention was to make it more meaningful than it has become. In fact, I am thinking now about how I have defended the wisdom of crowds for so long, but inherent to the chatter filled river that is twitter is a lot of noise, garbage and only the occasional diamond in a rough - unless of course it is personally relevant to me, which is why I hope the people I communicate with using Twitter understand the potential value it can have. Perhaps it wont be filled with drivel and spam for everyone....
