IMing is certainly nothing novel, but having a device that's always connected -- IMing from a cab, from the breakfast table, while out for a walk, at the mall -- is very new and cool. And the Sidekick provides POP, IMAP, web browsing, and real-time PIM application data synchronization with a pretty nice web client (including pictures taken with the camera).
